How to Scan a QR Code
On almost every modern phone, scanning a QR code takes nothing more than your camera. Here's how — on iPhone, Android, and even from a saved photo.
On iPhone
- Open the Camera app (iOS 11 or later — that's most iPhones).
- Point it at the QR code and hold steady; keep the whole code in view.
- Tap the yellow notification that pops up to open the link.
No app needed. If nothing appears, enable Scan QR Codes in Settings → Camera.
On Android
- On most phones (Android 9+), open the Camera app and point it at the code.
- Or open Google Lens (in the Camera, the Google app, or Google Photos) and aim at the code.
- Tap the link that appears.
Some older or budget phones need a free QR scanner app from the Play Store.
From a photo or screenshot
- Open the image in Google Photos and tap the Lens icon.
- Or open Google Lens and pick the saved image.
- It reads the code and shows the link — handy when someone sends you a QR code.
If it won't scan
- Add more light, and clean your camera lens.
- Fit the whole code in frame; move a little closer or further to focus.
- If the printed code is tiny or low-contrast, it may simply be hard to read — that's a design issue (see our size guide).

Why won't it scan?
